Stitch historic quilts inspired by the palette of butternut (the home-dyed uniform of the South) and blue (symbol of the Union), the uniforms of the Civil War on the western borders. We've seen quilts of butternut & blue, possibly stitched of scraps left over from the War years. For the quilts in this book, their interpretations of a variety of mid-19th century quilts, Barbara Brackman & Karla Menaugh used artistic license. The Butternut and Blue fabric collection that Barbara Brackman & Terry Clothier Thompson designed for Moda is also colored with the modern quiltmakers' taste in mind. Butternut & Blue - Threads of the Civil War contains eight quilting projects as well as instructions for a Flag Sewing Kit.
