The girls center of the Rafiki project in Malawi thank you for all of your donations of fabric and notions. The girls have made blouses with the larger pieces and they are piecing with the smaller ones. Because of the fabulous response we had, we are not collecting at this time.

We are on auto-ship with the following companies: Quilt in a Day, C&T, Martingale (That Patchwork Place), and AQS, so we get all the new books hot off the press.
PRIMITIVE PRIMER by Jan Patek and Sue Spargo: This wonderful book was out of print, but is back by popular demand. The cover quilt is a fabulous combination of folksy appliqué and piecing.
GARDEN DANCE by Jan Patek and Cherie Ralston contains 4 primitive floral appliqué patterns.
MACHINE EMBROIDERY MAKES THE QUILT by Patty Albin contains 6 creative projects with 26 designs to unleash your embroidery machine. Contains a bonus CD for embroidery machines.
BASKETS AND BOUQUETS: A Collection of Vintage Embroidery, a Four Corners Designs book. If you love that old embroidery, this book is for you. Quilts, vest, pillows, pillowcases, towels, dresser scarf and bag all feature old fashioned embroidery .
WOMEN OF DESIGN: Quilts in the Newspaper by Barbara Brackman. Barbara introduces you to many of the designers of the 1930’s who produced patterns for the Kansas City Star. There is a wonderful sampler basket quilt with a block from each of these designers. Also included is a fan quilt and a Scottie quilt. Lessons in color and fabric choice for a certain look are included as well as border options.
SUSAN McCORD: THE UNFORGETTABLE ARTISTRY OF AN INDIANA QUILTER by Barbara Brackman. Susan was quilting from 1850 to 1890 and one very unique aspect of her work was the use of strip pieced leaves in appliqué. In this book you will find many quilts with stylized flowers, urns, vines and leaves as well as the pieced quilts, Indiana Puzzle and Ocean Waves.
CELEBRATE GREAT QUILTS! Circa 1825-1940, the International Quilt Festival Collection. This is not a pattern book, but you can learn a great deal about quilt history and quilts from the wonderful photos and from reading the descriptions. If you love antique quilts, this is a “must have” book.
BLENDING PHOTOS WITH FABRIC, a beautiful new way to combine photography, printing and quiltmaking. The stunning quilts in this book are very unique.
PRAIRIE QUILTS: Projects for the home inspired by the life and times of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Old favorite patterns are combined and set in interesting ways. My favorite is the navy and pink “House That Pa Built” quilt.
STAINED GLASS APPLIQUE, THE SIMPLE FUSED WAY by Brenda Brayfield. This book teaches you how to appliqué the pieces, finish the raw edges, and quilt the layers, all at the same time without bias tape.
300 PAPER PIECED QUILT BLOCKS by Carol Doak. This is an amazing collection including animals, flowers and leaves, geometrics and abstracts. Includes a CD.
QUILTER’S BOUNTY, Extraordinary Quilts from Ordinary Blocks. 14 projects plus a good quilting basics section.
THE QUILT THAT WALKED TO GOLDEN: Women and Quilts in the Mountain West from the Overland Trail to Contemporary Colorado, by Sandra Dallas (author of The Persian Pickle Club). A master story teller, Dallas captures the spirit of adventure and drive for survival of America’s pioneer women, who often recorded their lives in the quilts and personal documents they left behind.
ENDURING GRACE: This book was out of print, but has been brought back by Froncie Quinn, one of the authors, by popular demand. It is a book of quilts from the Shelburne Museum with 5 reproduction quilt patterns included. These are classics.
PERIODICALS: We carry QUILTERS NEWSLETTER MAGAZINE, McCALLS QUILT MAGAZINE, AUSTRALIAN PATCHWORK AND QUILTING, AND DOWN UNDER QUILTS as well as BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS QUILT SAMPLER MAGAZINE.

CLUBS
THIMBLEBERRIES CLUB: CIRCLE OF LOVE: Made with love, given with love, received with love, and remembered with love. What a nice way to think about our quilting passion, because so much of our work is given away. Beginning in Jan. we will start on the Sunrise quilt which will take us 6 months at one block a month. The second half of the year we will be making the Sunset quilt. Regularly meets the second Sunday of the month at 2pm. (shop opens at 1:30). All are welcome and there is no charge. Special patterns from Lynette Jensen are featured. Kits available. Door prize, refreshments, show and share, a good time to socialize.
DEAR JANE CLUB: This group meets to share their experience of recreating a very special historic quilt from the Civil War era. Some of the members have more than 50 blocks made. Others (like me) have a few made. Club meets the first Thurs. of the month from 9:30 -2pm. Bring a lunch and blocks to show and share and one to work on, too. If you have not started, come and find out all about Jane Stickle’s 1863 quilt.
JAN PATEK AND FRIENDS GIRL GANG: “Sunshine on my Shoulder” designed by Cherie Ralston is this year’s Girl Gang quilt. It is a wonderful quilt combining piecing and appliqué with a primitive sun, Jan’s signature stars, baskets and sawtooth sashings. You will receive a pattern for a section of the quilt each meeting. There will be recipes, words of wisdom for life as well as quilting and some extra projects. This is not a class, but we’ll try to share some demonstration of a technique and have the section of the quilt to show. We’ll also expect a lot of showing and sharing. Club meets the first Thurs. of the month from 1-4 and we are still trying to get a 6:30-9 group going. There is no charge for this club.
JO’S LITTLE WOMEN CLUB: A small old looking quilt will be featured each month. The idea for this and the Girl Gang is a gathering of women coming together to enjoy the process of making old looking quilts and needful things. Both group projects lend themselves to hand work, but you can use your machine if you like. In addition, they are scrappy, and call for fat quarters, a great opportunity to use some of that collection. We will have Jo Morton and Jan Patek fat quarters. No charge for the club which meets the first Thurs of the month 1-4 and again, we are trying to get an evening group going. You will notice that Girl Gang and Jo’s Little Women meet at the same time and it seems to be working well.
4th WED. LANDSCAPES: This is a group to share knowledge, inspiration, resources, etc . as they relate to creating landscape quilts. This is not a class, but expect lots of learning and sharing to take place. Group meets the fourth Wed. from 10-2. Bring a lunch. Shirley Albright and Joan Allen are facilitators.
PAT SLOAN’S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS CLUB is starting the third Sat. in January at 10:30 AM. This club will include a newsletter from Pat with projects, hints, recipes, and words of wisdom. A time to sit and sew and share is planned. A wonderful whimsical, folk style block of the month quilt, Brambleberry Friends is also offered. The quilt has seasonal motifs to take us throughout the year. There will be a charge for this club since it is a BOM. I’ll have more on pricing soon.
