Fassett, Kaffe

Born in San Francisco, Kaffe Fassett settled in England in 1964 and worked as an artist. On a trip to Scotland he stumbled on an irresistible collection of coloured yarns. A few months later he was hooked and proceeded to knit and stitch himself a career.
In 1996 Kaffe was asked by the charity Oxfam to visit villages in India to advise on designs that could be marketed in the West.
A wonderful range of stripped fabric was the result.
After a meeting with his close friend and quilter Liza Prior Lucy, in 1996, Kaffe was urged to do a book on her great passion, patchwork. This was the beginning of a new adventure and Kaffe's first patchwork collection "Glorious Patchwork" was published in 1997. Kaffe's second book, "Passionate Patchwork" written with Liza, was published in 2000.
Whilst working on quilts for "Glorious Patchwork" Kaffe designed a range of woven shot cotton and checked fabrics. These were quickly followed by a stunning collection of printed fabrics for the Kaffe Fassett Fabric Collection, all of which are featured in the Rowan Patchwork books, the first of which was published in 1999.
