"Midwinter Reds" designed by Minick and Simpson for Moda Fabrics.
Red and white is crisp, homey, and inviting. It's the warm palette of berries and cream, gingham aprons, grandmother,s kitchen canister, and wonderful quilts. It reminds us of polka-dots, peppermint candies, and antique transfer ware. The Winter holidays of christmas and Valentine's Day just wouldn't be the same without red and white.
In the spring of 2012 Minick and Simpson went to "The Infinite Variety Show: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts" that was sponsored by the American Folk Art Museum. This truly special show whetted our appetite and we started sketching fabric and quilts as we toured the Park Avenue Armory. Midwinter Reds is our homage to this inspirational show.
